Mophie just launched a new series of portable batteries, the 2019 power station line, and there are four different capacity to choose from. The big feature with this new line is that they all have a USB-C port that can act as an input or an output, meaning it can dish out charge when connected to another device (like a smartphone) or accept charge when plugged into the wall. In theory, it’s the only port you really need, but all the powerpacks sport at least one USB-A port as well.
Below is a quick outline of the new portable batteries:
• powerstation mini ($40) – this 5,000mAh can give your smartphone up to 18 hours of extra power. It’s available in black, gray, navy, pink and light blue.
• powerstation ($50) – this 10,000mAh can give your smartphone up to 36 hours of extra power. It’s available in black, gray, navy and pink.
• powerstation XL ($60) – this 15,000mAh can give your smartphone up to 55 hours of extra power. It’s available in black and gray.
• powerstation XXL ($70) – this 20,000mAh can give your smartphone up to 73 hours of extra power. It’s only available in black.
Other than the obvious size differences, the two smaller powerstation batteries have one additional USB-A port along with the USB-C port, while larger powerstations have two additional ports so they can charge a few extra device simultaneously. They all have a nice fabric finish, making each feel a little more premium than your average portable battery. Another neat little feature is that every portable battery in Mophie’s 2019 powerstation line comes in either gray and black, so if you want a portable battery to match your monochromatic setup — or if you want it to match your space gray MacBook — you can.
