Invented by American metallurgist Dr. Larrin Thomas in 2021, MagnaCut steel has had the knifemaking industry in a chokehold for the past few years. But with the emergence of a potential successor, another Thomas-created material called MagnaMax, its days could be numbered.

Whether that comes to pass is anybody’s guess (although we suspect MagnaCut will continue to remain relevant for years to come). In the meantime, knifemakers and brands have continued to turn to this super steel for some of their best releases of the year.
