The idea of hopping in your truck and getting away from it all without having to worry about power, water or supplies is incredibly attractive. Who wouldn’t want that kind of freedom?

Yep, this is pretty much what it looks like when our editors daydream about overlanding.
Supertramp

Supertramp Campers, a leader in innovative overlanding design, already had a reputation for producing capable, adventure-ready rigs, but its new flagship model, built for long-duration travel, takes autonomy to a completely different level.

Go anywhere

Supertramp Campers’s latest release, the Megatron, is a fully integrated expedition truck designed to offer long-term, capable autonomy to overlanders desiring a single, well-equipped platform.

Looks pretty quick for a heavy duty rig, right?
Supertramp

Supertramp has previously specialized in slide-in designs, but the Megatron is different: it’s a complete vehicle system built on a dedicated chassis, which in this case is the Ford F-550 “Elevation Off Grid Black Edition” chassis, developed in partnership with Elevation Off Grid.

Thanks to its heavy-duty build, the Megatron retains 18,500 pounds of towing capacity and 5,000 pounds of payload. And thanks to its front axle and U-joints, Megatron can turn tighter than a standard F350, providing around 45 degrees of steering angle … which only increases its capability off-road and in tight spots. Rugged 41-inch Goodyear military grade tires complete the package.

By building directly onto a capable chassis, the Megatron is able to deliver both comfort and capability, effectively eliminating the need to compromise … if you can afford it. (More on that later.)

Hit the road

The camper structure itself is engineered from a carbon-reinforced, vacuum-infused monocoque composite, which Supertramp produces entirely in-house, using marine and aerospace manufacturing techniques.

This construction method cuts weight and reduces the risk of rot, all while maintaining excellent strength.

If I didn’t tell you this was inside a camper, you might think it was a (small) luxury hotel room.

Paired with the aforementioned chassis and Liquid Springs Suspension, (which offers a custom-tuned ride and allows for the choice between 3 different drive modes,) and plenty of amenities, you’ll be able to get out to hard to reach spots and stay there. A 66-gallon fuel tank provides additional “get out and stay out” capability.

In terms of power, the Megatron has plenty. The roof-mounted 800-watt solar array feeds a 910 amp-hour lithium battery bank through a 24-volt/12-volt Mastervolt electrical system. Two C-Zone Touch 7 control panels provide ultimate control over the camper’s appliances and controls.

The interior is light-filled and expansive, thanks to the 71-inch standing height paired with eight dual-pane glass Outbound windows. The full wet bath, heated floors, 200 liter fridge/freezer, 14-inch sink and California King sized bed with 34 inches of headroom deliver ultimate luxury on the road.

Fully kitted out, this rig is going to run you over half a million dollars. But who can put a price on adventure?
Supertramp

However, all this luxury doesn’t come cheap. The base price of the Megatron is a whopping $495,795, and with all the available upgrades included, it comes in at a staggering $581,750. To purchase, a 25-percent deposit is required.

Availability and pricing

The Megatron is available now on Supertramp’s website. If you’re curious to learn more, you can submit a build inquiry with no commitment.
