We’re living in the golden age of outerwear. Gone are the days when a stylish jacket was assumed to be less capable than its technical counterparts — and vice versa.

Outdoor Research’s new small-batch release proves just how seamlessly form and function can merge in modern performance apparel.

Designed by the brand’s Seattle team, the Townsend Down Jacket blends contemporary city style with technical craftsmanship so effortlessly that it might just become your winter wardrobe’s quiver killer.

Small batch, big design

As a brand born in 1980’s Seattle, Outdoor Research knows a thing or two about crafting high-performance apparel that can stand up to cold weather.

The new Townsend Down Jacket exemplifies the brand’s decades of experience, combining easy-to-wear city styling with technical details including responsibly sourced premium 700+ fill down, PFC-free durable water-resistance (DWR) and more.

The tough, 100 percent nylon shell fabric shuts out wind and light moisture, while the adjustable wrist cuffs with internal kit gaiters and zippered hand pockets trap heat for enhanced comfort.

The hood is also adjustable, as is the drawcord hem.

Drop-in utility pockets on the front of the jacket, plus a zippered Napoleon pocket, make it easy to stow essentials without feeling bulky. The large internal mesh stash pocket could easily hold the rest of your EDC loadout.

All told, the functional, practical details of the Townsend — combined with its utilitarian, military-inspired Ranger Green and Black colorways — make this a down puffer that can easily hold its own in the city or on your next off-grid adventure.
