Over the last year, a wealth of outerwear was released from countless brands. While the new jackets and coats didn’t necessarily reinvent the wheel, they offered thoughtful updates and advances to a few necessary categories.
We saw a proliferation of raincoats and waterproof technologies being implemented in a range of new styles. This focus on function was also prevalent in the uptick of travel coats and jackets new to the market this year. Aside from functional garments, the focus remained on timeless classics: minute updates to iconic silhouettes and styles.
Change doesn’t come rapidly to the outerwear space. Style and technologies are iterative, resulting in a slow progression over time. But that’s OK: jackets and coats are also investment pieces designed to last for years — you wouldn’t want to replace your parka as frequently as your iPhone.
