Adidas has always had one foot in sport and the other in culture. This year, it’s felt like both were moving faster than ever.
On the performance side, the brand continued to cement its dominance in running with the record-breaking Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, expanded its outdoor ambitions with the Terrex Agravic SL and futuristic Hyperboost Edge, and remained at the center of the world’s biggest football tournament as adidas-sponsored nations, players and products dominated the World Cup conversation.
At the same time, Originals continued to prove there’s still plenty of life left in the archive, reviving classics like the BW Army, continuously tweaking the iconic Stan Smith and Samba, and partnering with Wales Bonner on several releases, including one of the year’s most coveted sneakers, the Adizero Adios Mesh.
Together, those releases painted a picture of a brand that continues to dictate trends, whether on a marathon course, a football pitch, or the sidewalk.
With more than half of the year officially in the books, a mid-year report card looking back at Adidas releases so far felt in order.
